2025 Year in Review
Keeping Energy Affordable
Our customers count on us to keep bills as low as possible. We prioritize capital investments based on operational needs and minimizing rate impacts. We also support customers through energy efficiency programs and bill assistance for those most in need. Across Fortis, our companies continue to find efficiencies and adopt innovative practices – such as grid-enhancing technologies and AI-enabled vegetation management – to maximize the use of existing assets and reduce operating costs. Customer affordability will continue to guide how we plan, invest, and operate.

TEP Cuts Costs and Emissions
In July, Tucson Electric Power (TEP) announced plans to convert two coal-fired units at the Springerville Generating Station to natural gas. The conversion will cost less than building new resources with comparable reliability. It will support local jobs, strengthen the community, and reduce the unit’s carbon emissions by 40%. This transition will extend the life of a plant that has powered Tucson’s growth for more than four decades, while replacing nearly 800 megawatts of retiring coal capacity.

Discounts to Reduce Energy Costs
Central Hudson introduced the Enhanced Energy Affordability Program to support customers who fall outside traditional income-based assistance programs but still need help managing their energy bills. The program offers a fixed monthly bill discount to help low and moderate-income families reduce their energy costs. By enrolling, customers can take advantage of expanded benefits that make energy more affordable and accessible.
Climate Planning and Preparedness
We are designing and operating systems to withstand the extreme weather events we experience today and the climate conditions we anticipate in the decades ahead.

New Technologies to Combat Wildfires
Fortis companies continue to advance wildfire prevention and preparedness, with local plans tailored to the wildfire risk within their respective geographic regions. This includes enhancing grid design and infrastructure, improving asset and vegetation management, implementing Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) programs, and expanding the use of cutting-edge technologies to better predict and respond to wildfires.
FortisAlberta has been recognized for its leadership in this area. In 2025, it partnered with Technosylva to deploy an AI‑driven forecasting tool that models wildfire risk and other extreme weather events, such as high wind, days in advance. This allows FortisAlberta to be proactive, with targeted prevention measures, such as pre‑positioning crews for rapid response.
